Lucketts joy for National Storytelling

Lucketts Group has been ensuring school children in Hampshire experience the magic of storytelling this week with a helping hand from Lee Peck Media.

In celebration of National Storytelling Week (Jan 28 – Feb 4) the coach company wanted to send a professional storyteller into local schools on board one of its coaches and Lee Peck Media was there to help every step of the way. The agency helped to organise the campaign, booking professional storyteller Michael O’Leary, speaking to schools, organising the logistics and promoting the initiative through PR.

The hard work paid off this week as Michael O’Leary regaled the pupils with tales of magical details on board the luxury 53-seater coach, using props and musical instruments to bring the story to life.

Lucketts’ move to send a professional storyteller into schools during National Storytelling Week forms part of its mission to give back to the communities it works in. As one of the biggest independent providers of school travel in the county it is a familiar name with children, parents and teachers.

Lucketts Group has as many as 70 vehicles out on the road every weekday transporting schoolchildren to and from school as well to sports matches and events. The company also plays a part in some of the most memorable moments in children’s lives, with friendly drivers taking children on school trips as far afield as Scotland and Austria.

Paul Barringer, group sales and marketing director, said: “School travel is one of the most fun and rewarding parts of what we do. We see often children develop and grow over the years as they move from primary school through to secondary and college.

“We hope the pupils enjoyed having a performance from a professional storyteller on board our National Storytelling Week bus. We know we did!”

One of the schools to receive a visit from the Lucketts storytelling coach was St Jude’s C of E Primary School in Portsmouth. Rachael Osborne, head teacher, said: “The children had a fantastic time on board the coach listening to Michael and it’ll certainly be something they’ll remember for years to come. National Storytelling Week is a fantastic initiative for bringing literature to life and we’re very grateful to Lucketts for giving the children this opportunity to get involved.”
