The Solent Design Awards, which promote the awareness of the importance of good design in architecture and planning in the region, has appointed Lee Peck Media as sponsorship consultants.
A biannual competition, the 2016 event will run in the autumn of next year.
Senior lecturer in architecture at the University of Portsmouth and Awards Judge, Paul Grover said: “Projects are judged on the value and quality they add to the place in which they are located. And the public will get the chance to vote on their top design in a special poll.
“The Solent Design Awards are very successful in identifying real quality. We want to celebrate what good design can add to the community in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Even in the most difficult economic times, good design matters more than ever – as it can add value without increasing costs.”
The categories have changed slightly each year as the competition has evolved, however the People’s Choice has been included again, as it is a positive way to get local people outside of the design and build professions, involved in viewing and considering the significant buildings that are being constructed in their area. Entries have been invited through PR aimed at professional journals and organisations, via publications and websites and through the local authority planning departments. Architects, planners and construction companies are encouraged to complete their entry as a team.
Paul Ramshaw, Head of Regeneration and Planning Policy at Eastleigh Borough Council, who is one of the lead officers in the awards, said: “Like all awards ceremonies it is essential that we maximise sponsorship and LPM has a superb track record in this area. We are tapping into the agency’s expertise and contacts with the aim of taking the Solent Design Awards to the next level.”
