Lee Peck gave the south’s business leaders an insight into how PR can make or break a company as he led a workshop at AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium this week.
As a former journalist and seasoned PR leader with more than 30 years in the industry, Lee was invited to talk to the region’s business community about the vital role PR has to play in a brand’s reputation.
The evening saw Lee explore the idea of ‘spin’ and how the term has developed negative connotations over the years. Presenting alongside daughter Frankie, a BBC journalist, Lee gave real-life examples of how both businesses and politicians have used PR to strengthen their reputation or achieve specific objectives.
Lee said: “A brand’s reputation is one of its most precious assets so it’s vital to protect it. Establishing and maintaining good relationships with journalists is important and businesses can achieve this by regularly providing them with useful, timely and newsworthy stories. Over time this will create a bed of positive, on-brand content and with more and more news stories being posted online, this creates an ever-lasting legacy.”
The event was an interactive affair, with delegates given the opportunity to try some media training for themselves before enjoying a barbecue on the balcony of the stadium’s Champions Top Floor Restaurant.
